Human resource management (HRM) is the practice of recruiting, hiring, managing, and developing employees in an organization. HRM encompasses a variety of activities that involve all aspects of an employee’s life cycle within a business entity. It consists of four main domains: staffing; talent management; total rewards; and workplace culture and engagement (Chuang & Wang, 2020).
Staffing is the strategic process of filling roles within an organization with qualified personnel to ensure optimum performance. This domain involves reviewing job duties, predicting future hiring needs, creating recruitment plans, sourcing candidates, interviewing potential hires as well as onboarding and offboarding procedures (Chuang & Wang, 2020). The objective is to attract talented individuals who will fit into the organizational culture while meeting or exceeding productivity targets and accelerating growth.
Talent Management is primarily concerned with building a strong workforce through training programs aimed at improving employee skillsets and capabilities. This domain includes monitoring job performance in order to identify areas for improvement such as coaching weak employees or providing additional resources for advancement opportunities (Chuang & Wangm 2020). Additionally, talent management also focuses on retention by recognizing high-performing employees through promotion or special awards which help retain top performers in the organization.
Total Rewards focus on motivating current staff members by offering compensation packages built around salary increases or bonuses along with other attractive benefits like health plans or retirement savings options (Chuang &Wang.,2020). Total rewards motivate workers by linking their individual contributions to team success while also aligning them with corporate goals so they can feel more connected to the company’s mission statement.
Finally Workplace Culture and Engagement are strategies designed to provide support for employees in terms of their overall wellbeing such as stress relief initiatives or career development opportunities (Chuang & Wang.,2020). The goal here is to foster open communication between supervisors/managers and subordinates where ideas can be shared freely without fear of judgement which ultimately leads to higher employee satisfaction levels over time.
The most significant out of these four domains would have to be Talent Management due its long-term impact on an organisation’s ability sustain itself throughout different economic cycles(Prendergast et al., 2018). As businesses change over time it becomes increasingly important for organisations cultivate a robust pool of experts capable tackling any challenge that may arise during times uncertainty thus making this domain particularly vital when trying build a resilient organisation.. Furthermore having access highly skilled personnel allows companies stay competitive even against larger rivals because they can utilise their knowledge base efficiently execute projects quickly effectively(Prendergast et al., 2018) . Ultimately Talent Management helps create foundation upon which future success rests upon since organisations need rely competent staff members continue running smoothly regardless what happens external environment.
